What are you hiding from? When the thunder bellows and the lightening snaps at you, do you cower in the closet? “It’s not the weather,” you say. Are you sure? What about the spiritual storms that assail us? When your co-worker bellows and your temper snaps, do you run to hide? Do you feel guilty that you didn’t hold on and smile instead?
Let’s look to the scriptures for answers to those questions. James 5:16 says: “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” Hold on, you say, I’m not righteous. Really? What about the robe of righteousness that Jesus has promised you? Are you telling me you’re not wearing it? Well then maybe you feel guilty because you exposed your sinful self instead of the love of Jesus. Wrap that robe tightly around you. Don’t let the nakedness of your sinful nature be seen. Only show the beautiful love that Jesus gives you.
Yeah, I hear you saying, “How does that help me?” Well, you need to be daily in prayer. Jesus only gives that robe of righteousness to those who have confessed their sins (1 John 1:9) and been cleansed from all unrighteousness. And your best posture in confessing your sins is on your knees. Then power from the Lord of Armies will guard you in all you do, even when your co-worker bellows and your temper snaps. You will weather the storm after all.
